Adventure at Mulle Meck in Glada Hudik

In Mulle Meck's workshop we tinker with real tools. The things that you can build, tinker and repair with, Mulle Meck calls gadgets and gizmos. He says: "there is no scrap, only old things that can be used in new ways". You first come to Gyllene Grodan on Stortorget in Djupforsen, where you can buy coffee/simple food and drinks. From there you can go to Gårdon van Gågg's studio where you can find materials for creative creation. Or why not go to the carpentry shop where you can hammer, saw and construct from wood? For those who want, Mulle Meck's airplane is also ready for new adventures. Who knows where your imagination will fly?

Play with Mulle's nice yellow car or take a trip to the moon with the rocket and explore the moon cave. Don't forget to say hello to Buffa! This cuddly plush toy is always happy to receive a pat. In Sam Scribbler's newspaper workshop you can paint a nice picture. Or why not explore Mulle Meck's own boat? Take a trip out to sea and watch the fish!

The story of Mulle Meck in Glada Hudik

Here, the physical space is built based on the popular children's books about Mulle Meck by George Johansson and Jens Ahlbom. Here, both children and adults get the feeling of stepping straight into the world of books — a natural and authentic environment where children's eyes sparkle when they get to create, tinker and "make things for real". The first book about Mulle Meck "Mulle Meck bygger bilar"(Swedish)/"Mulle Meck Builds a Car" was published in 1993 and the first computer game was published in 1997.

The first part of the exhibition was built in 2001 at Junibacken in Stockholm, based on the ideas of scenographer Tor Svae's ideas about experience-based playgrounds. He uses interactive and tactile environments to awaken children's natural curiosity about books and stories. At that time, both creators lived in the municipality of Hudiksvall.

In 2003, the municipality of Hudiksvall and the local business community collaborated to bring the exhibition to Hudiksvall. It was placed at the Hälsingland Museum in Hudiksvall and was greatly appreciated by visitors.

On a snowy, stormy day in January 2006, the current Mulle Meck in Glada Hudik was opened as a visitor attraction. The new premises made it possible to make a larger, more interactive and even more creative exhibition. From the very beginning, the attraction welcomed many visiting groups and hosted activities in the evenings.

In 2016, the exhibition underwent a renovation. The wood shop was relocated, the entire floor was replaced, and both a new café section and a boat were added.

In 2024, the new entrance, accessible from Storgatan, was officially opened. The café area was moved to the entrance and an additional room was added to the exhibition: Gårdon van Gågg's studio, where you can find materials for creative activities.

Information

Here at Mulle Meck in Glada Hudik we want everyone to be able to create and have fun! For everyone's comfort and safety, we have set up some Rules of Conduct. All children who come to us must be accompanied by a person over the age of 18 who is responsible for the child's safety. Always have an overview of your children, especially in the carpentry workshop.

Entrance

For you with strollers, please park it in the dedicated stroller parking area around the corner from the entrance. Locks can be borrowed at the reception desk. You can store things from the stroller on shelves in the area where you hang your outerwear.

Inside the premises there are shelves where you can place your shoes. However, if you as an adult want to keep the shoes on, there are shoe covers for you to use. For hygienic reasons, it is good if all visitors wear socks inside the premises.

We have three WC's which you can use: one of which has a changing table. We also have an elevator for those that need it.

Food and Snacks

Consumption of your own food or drink is not allowed inside the premises – of course with the exception of baby food for the little ones, as well as special food for you with allergies. You have access to a microwave oven.

Eating takes places primarily within the Café area.

Good to know

There are sharp corners, oil spills and real tools at Mulle Meck so play is conducted at your own risk.

To promote as safe and fun of a play environment as possible, keep in mind the following:

Do not run inside the premises
Children must climb up to the slide through the rocket or via the climbing handles on the moon so they do not to get in the way of those who uses the slide.
Carpentry tools are only used in the carpentry workshop and with caution with regards to safety. There are tools that only you as an adult can borrow in the case that you want to practise using them with your child.
Mulle Meck is a children's and youth organization and therefore the Tobacco Act also prohibits smoking outdoors near the entrance. Mulle Meck's policy is to equate e-cigarettes with regular cigarettes.

Our staff always has the right to interrupt play or behavior that for safety reasons can be judged as dangerous.
